Evans Head is a small coastal town located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. It’s a great place to visit for a beach holiday or to explore the local forests and beaches.

Head to the Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome and take a look at vintage aircraft, including a replica of a WWI Bristol fighter. The aerodrome also doubles as an art gallery where you can admire amazing works by local artists. Or visit one of the many beaches in the area, like North Creek Beach or Main Beach. For some peace and quiet, check out the Evans Head River Estuary or wander down the Beachfront Walk.

Woodburn and Coraki

Drive: 11min

Heading further up the mid north coast towards Woodburn, take some time to explore this small town and its riverfront. Here you can visit the local pub for a meal or check out the historic buildings in town. Visit nearby Coraki too, with a few pretty parks and landmarks to enjoy. Be sure to stop by Coraki RSL and War Memorial Park for some beautiful views over the Richmond River.

Wardell

Drive: 19min

Continuing north, you’ll reach the tiny village of Wardell. This is a great place to explore nature and see some beautiful scenery. Make your way down to the Wardell Weir, where you can view some stunning waterfalls and spot wildlife like platypus in the stream.

Wardell Sports and Recreation Club is also a great spot for a bit of relaxation, with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, such as stand-up paddle boarding.

Ballina

Drive: 20min

Another must-visit destination along the north coast of NSW is Ballina. This bustling coastal town is home to stunning beaches, pristine waterways and plenty of entertaining activities. Take a stroll along the Ballina Coastal Walk, spot some dolphins on the Richmond River Cruise or explore the many markets in town.

If you’re feeling adventurous, hop aboard one of the sea kayaks and paddle around the Ballina Lighthouse area. Or simply relax on the nearby Missingham Beach and soak up the sun. There are plenty of great dining options here too, so make sure to sample some of the local seafood cuisines at one of the many waterfront restaurants.

Byron Bay

Drive: 32 minutes

The second to last stop on this NSW North Coast Road Trip is the popular holiday destination of Byron Bay. A half-hour north of Ballina you’ll find the easternmost point of Australia, the vibrant beach town of Byron Bay.
