An easy drive from Inverell, Armidale, Glen Inness and Warialda, Reflections Copeton Waters is the ultimate outdoor adventure playground. You could easily spend a week here, so the team at Copeton Waters have compiled a guide to their must-do ‘Seven Days in Copeton’. Here’s an extract of their tips for a fun-filled week in this country oasis.
Day 1: Where the water’s at
Get out onto large and lovely Copeton Dam. Sailing, kayaking, swimming, water-skiing or just drifting along with a fishing rod in hand - there’s no end to the ways to enjoy this vast body of water that’s three times the size of Sydney Harbour!
Day 2: Day trip into Inverell
Copeton Waters is just 30 minutes from Inverell, otherwise known as Sapphire City. Stroll through history at the Inverell Pioneer Village, explore the National Transport Museum and make the most of the town’s boutique shopping and delicious cafes.
Day 3: Bound for Bingara
Bingara is a charming town on the banks of the beautiful Gwydir River, filled with heritage and outdoor adventure. Our picks? Horse riding with Wade Horses Bingara followed by a visit to the art deco Roxy Theatre and Greek Café.
Day 4: Day trip to Kwiambal National Park
A short drive from Inverell, this secluded reserve offers scenic views, picture-perfect swimming holes, waterfalls, fishing, stunning walks and even limestone caves. Pack a torch and keep an eye out for the colony of rare bats!
Day 5: Fossick for your fortune
This area is famous for its sapphires, quartzes, crystals and gemstones. Try Seven Oaks Sapphires and Billabong Blue Fossicking Park for fun days in the great outdoors. They’ll supply the equipment and will share the tips and tricks of the trade. Who knows what you might find?
Day 6: Get active at Copeton
Time to make the most of Copeton’s fabulous range of facilities. Play a round of golf. Enjoy a hit of tennis. Bring the mountain bike and explore the trails or let the kids go wild on the playground, jumping pillow and water park. You’ll all sleep well tonight!
Day 7: Rest easy
It’s been an action-packed week, so you’d be entitled to put your feet up for a day. But if you’re still raring to go, we can suggest a day trip to Warialda and Cranky Rock Reserve. The Merilba Estate Cellar Door is also worth a visit for the wine lovers in the family.
