Healthy Holidays

18 Jan 2024
5 minutes

Every year on January 1st we all set out to become better versions of ourselves by creating New Years Resolutions. Over the years, the most popular resolutions include being healthier, exercising, reading more, sleeping more, spending time with family and friends, reducing stress and spending less time on the phone. Did you know that these resolutions share benefits with holidaying?

Luckily, you can be productive and check off your New Year goals while taking a holiday! Take part in the new ‘Healthier Holiday’ movement this year where thankfully, NSW has a variety of opportunities to keep you inspired.

Take a Hike

Whether you're a beach lover or a nature enthusiast, hiking options near our parks will leave you starry-eyed. From refreshing coastal paths or the breathtaking landscapes of the countryside, it’s your choice. If going on a hike or joining in on water sports is too daunting, you can always start by incorporating small daily walk in your holiday.

Choose your base from our park at Burrinjuck Waters or Wee Jasper Reserve to embark on the Hume and Hovell Track. Face the challenge of the 426km long distance track or choose your day trip to take in the beautiful country and truly be surrounded by nature. You’ll see Australian natives such as eucalypts and wattle while crossing swamplands, clear streams and rolling mountains.

Go to the coast for Nightcap National Park where the ancient World Heritage-listed rainforest will surround you in breathtaking beauty. With waterfalls, animals such as Albert’s Lyrebird and Fleay Barred frog and the newly discovered nightcap oak around every corner, the sights are never ending. Set up for the night in our park at Byron Bay or the Brunswick Heads area such as Ferry Reserve, Massy Greene or Terrace Reserve for an easy take off and base to return to after the big hike.

So lace up your boots, pack your backpack, and get ready to embark on unforgettable hiking experiences with us.

Get on the Water

If spending time on the water to you looks like sailing, kayaking, swimming, water-skiing, floating along, or fishing then get out and do that!

Copeton Waters has it all but when it comes to fishing you can’t go past the Murry Cod, known in the area as the “Copeton Cod”. Fishing is what Copeton Dam was made for at three times the size of Sydney Harbour and the only place that you can fish for Cod all year around (unlike other dams where Cod Season closes for 3 months from midnight on the 31st of August) you’ll be on the water for as long as you desire and never get bored.

Get on a board and surf at Scotts Head! Don’t fear if you’re a beginner, Scotts Head has been labelled as one of the best places to learn thanks to its slow peeling right hand point break. Other great tips for those new to surf include staying sun safe with sun protection, looking where you’re going and knowing who has right of way. Read our blog – Top Tips on Surfing NSW to become a pro overnight.

If calmer water is more your speed Brunswick River is the place to be. Our park at Terrace Reserve sits right on the river meaning there are plenty of opportunities for water-based activities such as fishing, boating, swimming and paddling on a kayak or stand-up paddle board.

Whatever spending time on the water looks like to you, dive right in and make the most of the warm weather.

Go for a walk into the local town to check out the boutique or landmarks, jump into the water for an easy afternoon paddle or stretch out your body at the end of the day as the sunsets. All these little movements everyday can make a big difference to your overall wellbeing.
